On November 29, 2024, the 39th International Scientific and Practical Conference, titled “Construction Entrepreneurship and Real Estate,” was held at the University of Economics – Varna. The forum brought together representatives from the academic community of various Bulgarian and international universities and business professionals to discuss current trends and challenges in the construction sector and the real estate market.
Organized annually by the Department of “Business, Investments, Real Estate” since 1985, the conference has established itself as a platform for sharing research and best practices, fostering dialogue between academia and industry.
Assoc. Prof. Todor Raychev, PhD, Head of the Department officially opened the event. He highlighted key challenges in the sector, including digitalization, the transition to a circular economy, green transformation, and new energy efficiency requirements.
The Rector of the University of Economics – Varna, Prof. Evgeni Stanimirov, PhD, welcomed the participants, emphasizing the sustainability and continuity with which the department maintains the link between academia and business.

The forum addressed key aspects of construction and real estate. The conference discussions were organized into four thematic panels:
- The first panel, dedicated to dynamics, risk and marketing behaviour in the real estate sector, examined national and international perspectives. The presentations provided an in-depth analysis of global trends and their impact on local markets.
- The second panel focused on real estate market factors, including prices, trends and investments, with an emphasis on issues such as the existence of a real estate bubble and the profitability of short-term rentals. Participants analyzed examples from different cities and made predictions about future market developments.
- The third panel analyzed management and innovation in the sector, identifying barriers to innovation. Particular emphasis was placed on digitalization and automation as key factors for increasing efficiency in property management.
- The fourth panel discussed challenges in construction, facility management and the urban environment. Experts presented successful examples of sustainable construction practices and discussed the role of urban design in creating a quality living environment.
Media coverage highlighted the significance of the conference at both regional and national levels. Leading outlets such as БТА, Darik News and ProNews Добрич emphasized expert forecasts for the stabilization of housing prices in 2025 and the importance of the forum for fostering dialogue between academia and business.
The construction and investment company “Planex Holding” Ltd supported the conference. This once again further underscores the importance of partnerships between business and academic institutions.
